What Christians should do regarding illegal immigration has been an ongoing debate for a long time. Recently, Christianity was entered into the debate over immigration bills being worked on in the US Congress by Senator Hillary Clinton. Hillary basically advanced the argument that opposing illegal immigration is "un-Christian" and claimed that such enforcement would be the same as making the Good Samaritan and Jesus criminals. Missing from Hillary's comments were quotes from the Bible. While immigration from Mexico is of course not mentioned, there are issues that illegal immigration bring up that are mentioned in the Bible. 1. Taxes Matthew...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15, 2006 Detainees at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are being held in accordance with the laws of armed conflict, John Bellinger, a State Department legal adviser, said here today. "The vast majority of the people who are in Guantanamo are being held under the typical laws of war," Bellinger said at a State Department Foreign Press Center briefing. "When we went into Afghanistan with the coalition, that was clearly a state of international armed conflict in Afghanistan, and clearly, the laws of war would apply to that." Bellinger said most of the detainees were captured...

Social Security's Sham Guarantee by Michael D. Tanner May 29, 2005 Michael Tanner is director of the Cato Institute's Project on Social Security Choice. How many times during the recent debate over Social Security reform have you heard someone refer to Social Security's "guaranteed benefit"? The AARP says "Social Security is the guaranteed part of your retirement plan." Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader in the House, touts the system's "guaranteed retirement benefit." The liberal activist group ProtectYourCheck.org, headed by former Clinton chief of staff Harold Ickes, is running ads calling Social Security "a guarantee you earned." But Social Security benefits...
ANOTHER GUN LAW BITES THE DUST

It is interesting to learn that I am legal again. Not that I was really concerned about it, that is. The old law was just slightly aggravating to me. You see, I am the proud owner of an old M1 Carbine. As rifles go, it's just a small 30 caliber semi-automatic. It is not really great for most types of hunting, but very easy to carry and handle. Mine was especially easy to carry and handle because I changed the stock, and a few other little things, to improve its portability and quick shooting ability in the field. The problem...

Lax visitor-tracking system a potential threat, critics say WASHINGTON -- The federal government vastly underestimates how many foreigners are overstaying their U.S. visas -- as four of the Sept. 11 hijackers did -- and isn't tracking them adequately, a new federal report said Thursday. "Weaknesses in overstay tracking may encourage visitors and potential terrorists who legally enter the United States to overstay," concludes a 57-page report from the U.S. General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress. The Department of Homeland Security figures that 2.3 million people are in the country on expired visas, but the GAO said the real...

On February 14, a Florida Appeals court ruled there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization. The court reversed the $425,000 jury verdict in favor of journalist Jane Akre who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information. The ruling basically declares it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast. On August 18, 2000, a six-person jury was unanimous in its conclusion that Akre was indeed...
