| I do something the media has failed to do--use logic to smack down the various allegations against Herman Cain of unsavory conduct, by raising a combination of facts, including some things that have not been mentioned--even by the conservative pundits trying to defend him. |

| The bullet that killed a New York state trooper during a shootout Wednesday morning in a farmhouse in the Catskill Mountains came from the gun of a fellow officer, not the suspect they had cornered, the state police said yesterday. The police said that the suspect, who was hiding in the house after shooting another trooper the day before, fired one bullet at the slain trooper, David C. Brinkerhoff, but that it hit his body armor. That bullet knocked Trooper Brinkerhoff onto one knee. He was then struck once in the head, fatally, during the fusillade of bullets that followed... |

| SACRAMENTO (AP) - Even as four western states agreed this week to help string electric transmission lines to power-starved Southern California from the coal fields of Wyoming, California energy regulators began Wednesday considering new ways to force the state's utilities to switch to cleaner energy. The California Energy Commission's Climate Change Advisory Committee is eying "cap-and-trade" proposals, similar to what has worked to limit everything from smog to acid rain. This time it would go to limit so-called "greenhouse gases" that contribute to global warming. Advocates say such a move by California would again lead the way for other states.... |

IT seems no one likes Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget proposal for the 2005-06 fiscal year, not even him. But it's a starting point for shaping what will hopefully be the budget that finally brings state spending in line with revenues. The good news is that it makes tough recommendations for spending cuts in an attempt to erase the $8 billion-grown-to-$9.1 billion deficit. The bad news is that the governor kept tax or revenue increases off the bargaining table. And, he once again depends on borrowing to erase part of the shortfall. All options, including revenue or tax increases, should be...

|
The California Medical Association filed a lawsuit Friday to block a state budget cut that would reduce the amount doctors are paid to treat the poor.

If the cut goes through, the doctors say the number of physicians who treat the state's 6.5 million Medi-Cal patients is likely to fall. Those patients then would be forced into seeking emergency room treatment -- at costs that could greatly exceed the $237 million in budget savings, according to the doctors.
|
